brian hughes simplethings@hotmail.com It's rather hard to explain but some of us end up with so many little scars all over the body. It's not usually intentional, but our bodies are not perfect. They heal but they do not forget. From surgery to just being a kid and receiving the typical amount of injuries it often makes me wonder how these models of our society have managed to hide their little imperfections. I have no fear, so have a look at mine. Right Hand - index middle and ring finger up to the second knuckle are all scarred due to an accident with an iron at the age of two. So yes, people, I burned my hand. Then it was slammed in a car door (12 years old), and then it was slammed in a window (16 years old). Each time it was injured the scar on my middle finger ripped/broke open and thankfully so. The cuticle on my middle finger was being pulled from my nail due to the tightness of the scar tissue, but I think I'm okay now since I stopped growing. Middle Finger - sliced full depth with a sharp metal strand when I was working in the machine shop. Approximately halfway through my finger, bled like crazy. Skin didn't line up when they stitched it (4 stitches) so I have a line and a bulge of skin. It's funny to look at my finger because my finger prints don't line up there. There is also a little scar on the second knuckle of my middle finger about half and inch long parrallel to my finger, I cut myself holding something. I think it may have been one time moving clothes driers in and out of a friends house. On the third knuckle, this time on the back of my hand, there is a part of skin which is lighter and when touched feels like it is right against the bone. However, it is a scar from when a wrench slipped and my hands ran down the thread of a very large c-clamp. The result was pretty bloody but only a small scar. Back of Right Hand - about 2 inches up from my ring finger and pinky is an almost triangular scar that was obtained while working at McDonald's. I was cleaning the grille and a girl asked me a question, I turned to respond. I wasn't paying attention and I touched the corner of a very (425 F) hot piece of metal. The scar would have been a nice isosceles triangle about 5/8 of an inch along the two sides and ½ and inch along the base. It would have been (and still kind of is) pointing at the tip of my thumb. If you do recall though, a moment ago I said it would have been. It isn't because I was riding just as it had almost finished healing and I wiped out on my bike, and I landed on that hand, the scab and burn was ripped up good as well as much of the rest of my hand, but it didn't scar that time. Right and Left Thumb - nothing on the finger print part, but on the second knuckle there are dark semi-round scars that I got from girl who thought it was fun to see what my pain tolerances were. It was typing class, I was bored, she was cute, so I let her. She took both my hands in hers and dug her nails into the flesh, it didn't hurt at all. It also didn't bleed much, she was dissappointed until I showed her about 6 months later that I had some pretty scars. (Like I said she was cute, but nothing came of it.) Left Palm - below my middle finger by about ½ an inch is a scar shaped almost like an upside down "A". I received this while living in my appartment, my girlfriend had busted the shower and I was modifying a part to remount it. I made a mistake with a cordless drill and a 3/8 inch bit and well that was the result. In plain english I drilled into my palm. Left Hand Index Finger - on the second knuckle, a couple years ago while camping with family I was chopping kindling. I'd been at it for about an hour or so and for some reason I brought the small ax down on my hand. It cut deep, but not deep enough to need stitches. I must say it was rather odd because I was trying not to cut myself but I knew it was gonna cut me as I let the ax down that time. It wasn't too bad. Bled like a SOB mind you. Both Hands - various other small scars that I either don't remember getting or aren't noticeable to care about. It has been mentioned to me that I don't include other such scars as my (ahem) circumsicion, or other intersting ones. Well I have them, from scars from my two surguries from my two hernias to the scar that runs down my shoulder from when I was much younger. I've scars on my ankles and face and knees and everything else. The thing of it is, if you look at me I doubt you can really see anything. If I had pictures of my hands I would include them. |
